AN ABSOLUTE PIECE OF GARBAGE!!! I had the misfortune of seeing the TV commercial showing this Rockwell SoniCrafter to be a versatile, easy to use, reliable, and outstanding power tool. After receiving it, I was VERY disappointed. The Allen Screw that secures the blade came loose right from the beginning & the blade spun loose & the unit could not be used. No matter how much force I applied the blade still kept coming loose. Additionally, the unit gets very hot quickly. This unit is a very poorly made inferior piece of junk. I attempted to do a "plunge cut" into paneling in order to install an electrical outlet. After the SoniCrafter failed I wound up using hand tools to do the job. So, What good is this device? No good! Another thing, after phoning Rockwell to get a refund as per their 30 day money back guarantee I was shuffled around from one service rep to another & eventually they disconnected. I phoned Citi Bank(MasterCard)& explained the situation. They initiated a dispute & gave me a conditional credit for $194.41.Months passed and I received a current Citi Bank(MasterCard) statement & saw that the conditional $194.41 credit had been "reversed" & the charge was "reapplied to my account. This entire matter has practically given me "ulcers." Citi Bank(MasterCard) somehow cannot get Rockwell to refund the money. I then contacted the State Attorney General of North Carolina (the state Rockwell is located in) & asked for their help. No soap! They couldn't do anything. Too much time had passed. Then, I contacted the Better Business Bureau in North Carolina & am still waiting for their reply. I URGE all viewers out there to NOT purchase this inferior tool made by Rockwell Tools, Inc. 1) Makes a lot of noise. and the noise level actually go up when u try to cut something.
2) Cuts to nails hammered in wood but doesn't cut wood smoothly.
3) Blades heat a lot quickly.
4) Time difference between manually cutting 18mm ply and using this tool. (manually it would have taken me 20 mins, using soniccrafter it takes me around 12-15 mins. If i use bench saw it would have done the work in < 3 mins.
5) Vaccum pipe is a joke. Attach it along with a vaccum cleaner and it makes a shrill whistling noise. and then if you attach it to the soniccrafter it increases the noise level. Best not to use it.
6) Tool it self is very handy helps me in cutting, sawing, sanding, and a lot of other stuff which would have taken a lot of time for me.

I've been wanting a Sonicraft Tool since Fein was advertising their $400 plus tool kit. I recently found a version of this at Sears, but it was battery powered and Sears don't keep batteries or replacement parts & supplies in stock, so I walked away from it. When I seen the Rockwell Sonicraft, I immediately ordered it. I already had a need for it the day I received it. My task would have been complicated to say the least and the cosmetics of the job I'm sure would not have been neat without the Sonicraft. So far, I've used the cutting blade and the sander. I'm impressed with the way the sander paper is applied. It's velcro, and believe it or not, the paper really sticks and stays in place. Not a problem pulling the paper off when it needs replacement.
The quality of the tool appears and feels heavy duty. This is a tool that should last a long time with proper care. If I was to complain about anything, it would be the case that holds the attachments. The case is too small to put the attachments and supplies in. I had to buy a bigger case in the Arts & Crafts Department of Walmart, but then it was almost too big to fit into the carrying bag that holds the tool.

OK, I bought the 72 piece Sonicrafter set. I was building a project and needed to cut off the ends of some dry wall screws where they protruded through the wood.

Ah, I thought just the job for the Sonicrafter and its metal saw blade! NOPE, it took about 4 min to saw through the little tippy end of the screw. OK, yeah, I know, dry wall screws are pretty tough so I tried the carbide semicircular blade. Not much difference, lotta noise, not much progress.

Between my father and I, we own an obscene amount of tools. We recognize that the right tool makes a huge difference when presented with a specific obstacle or hurdle. I spent a lot of time deciding which tool to go with. Honestly, the only companies I was considering were Fein, Rockwell and Dremel. The Dremel tool felt too amatuerish to me and it was so new to the market at the time, I didn't want to the lab rat to figure out what was wrong with it. The Fein tool was beautifully made but it carried a not so beautiful price tag. The Rockwell tool split the difference between the abovementioned two tools nicely.

When you hold it, it has an obvious heft to it. From what I can tell, there's nothing plastic to break easily and the cord is nicely sized. The carrying bag is great as is the attachment carrying case, despite the fact I had to empty it out a bit to get it closed after opening it the first time.

The tool runs admirably. It gets a bit warm/hot when running it for extended periods, but it's manageable the entire time. The adjustable speed is great and it takes some time to get use to how to best cut something. Go too hard and you prevent the blades from oscillating and cutting. Too light and it'll be hard to keep the blade from jumping around. Given how much effort it puts, I highly recommend staying with a CORDED multi-tool. I can see the cordless versions from other companies being underpowered if you cutting anything harder than pine or sheetrock.

I've looked at most of the multi tools on the market and read so many reviews it would make your head swim. The Fein multi tool is the best and most expensive on the market but who can afford that much money for just one tool in these times. I looked and was able to try the dremel,craftsman and bosch tools, two of which are battery operated and worked well but the battery life sucks, only get a few minutes of working time but does have the power to do most jobs ok. the dremel is cord powered but seems underpowered for some of the heavier jobs. They all have great uses for what they were designed for. That being said it really takes time, practice and some skill to use a multi-tool to get the most out of it. It is not like a saw which cuts through most things with force, you have to let the tool find its way through the material. I learned this through trial and error using the tool. Now on to the review of the rockwell sonic crafter. Great tool but a little heavy because of powerful motor. Love the fact it plugs into the wall for power and has a fairly long cord. Love the fact that it comes with an adaptor to use everyones blades, sure makes it easy to just run to the home improvement store and get a replacement blade if your need one. Have used this tool doing a kitchen renovation and used it so many ways that has saved me much time and money. I would highly recommend this tool to all the DIY's for various project. Cann't beat the price which is twice the craftsman, bosch, and dremel, but half the price of the Fein. It just depends on where you shop and how much of a hurry you need the tool. Save yourself time and money, dont buy this product. This product is not meant to do the heavy duty stuff you see it do on TV. I got all excited because I am doing a remodel and figured an all in one tool like this would help. WRONG. I promise you, if you buy this product you will feel robbed. Here is something to consider.

1) The blades dont last that long, I cut through two nails with the univeral blade and it was done. A new blade costs $10 bucks and guess what, they are not available in local stores. So you have to wait to get them in the mail. Cutting in wood is fun because unless it is ultra thin or there is already a gap it, i can cut the wood with a handsaw faster.

2) This is intended more for crafts, the sanding unit on this is for softwoods at best. It feels as if I used countless of those sandpaper grits and barely made a dent on touching up sections in my hardwoods.

3) The carbide blade works at the pace of a snail for it to be effective. I was trying to remove some tile floor, well guess what it took forever to remove a line of grout next to the tile.

4) The scrapper, ok this product works as good as a butter knife, if you want to test this, try them side by side, you will have a good laugh.

5) Nobody wants to buy this at half the value. Nobody and I wonder why...

I can go on and on and I hope you read this before you buy, I read these things nowadays cause you can save yourself a lot of time and money. I am going to prove these things with a video. So stand by.
