I have the Harbor Freight version. Came with several blades and sanding pads - but it does not have the diamond blade which is a big part of the 180.00 layout for the Rockwell version. Also it is not variable speed. But I've used it for all sorts of material - tile/carpet/wood/metal with no issues and the blades are still sharp. It was like 40.00 on the website - really more useful for the not-using-every-day sort of hobbyist. I tried the Dremel one and really did not like it for the price; maybe the Rockwell is a better build? Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I bought the Sonicrafter a while back and I've done quite a few projects with it. I cut out a place in our kitchen cabinets so I could install a dishwasher for my wife. I don't know if I could have done this using any other tool. I was so impressed with it I took on another project in the kitchen. I refaced all of our kitchen cabinets. My wife is very impressed with how they turned out and so our my neighbors. I also used it to sand down and repair a rusted up hot water tank on my Son-in-law and daughters camper. My Son-in-law and daughter were both amazed at how well it turned out. Then my Son-in-law was working on the roof of the camper with a putty knife trying to remove old caulking and other debris and needless to say he was getting nowhere, so I brought out the Sonicrafter and put on the blade to remove putty and in no time he was finished with his camper roof. He told my daughter he wanted one of these for Christmas. Then last week my neighbor asked me if he could borrow it. He wanted to install some laminate flooring in a couple of closet. He used it cut under trim around the doors and corners. He said he tried to remove the baseboard but he could not get it loose so, he just ran it behind it and cut the nails off. He told me his daughter kept asking him if he liked the Sonicrafter. He told her
he really liked it and would like to have one. I think he may get one for Christmas.
I gave it five stars I love it...

Wow, so far I really like the Sonicrafter. I've only used it on dry wall and base boards, but it cut both just fine. I like the tool because it not only works well, but it's corded. You don't need to worry about the battery running down. It didn't get hot and it has an adjustable speed. For me, I found using the highest speed worked the best. Just let the tool do the work, don't force it and it works great. You may need time to get use to letting the tool do the work and not trying to go too fast, but once you get use to it, you'll be able to go as fast or slow as you want. It's not extremely noisy, it has a little noise and you can feel the vibration, but you'll soon get use to that. Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I needed to move a roof over a deck that was attached to the roof of my house. I didn't want to disturb the part on the house, just cut the 2x4 beams. The problem was that space was so limited I couldn't get a reciprocating saw in there to cut. The Rockwell Sonicrafter was PERFECT for the job. I could slide it in from the side and it cut through just the beam without hitting the roof decking or support structure. The blade made it through 20 2x4s with no problem. It stayed tight and is still good. Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

This product is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a multi-function tool. It seems more durable than some competitors, less expensive than other commercial grade options, and it is perfect for projects around the home. I've been happy with it when removing tile, cutting woood to fit, and even for cutting off a few screws that fastened a closet track to the the tile. When the cordless drill could not remove them, the Sonicrafter blade was inserted below the track and the screws were cut right off. It has already saved quite a bit of time, and I am very glad that I purchased this deluxe kit.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

The rockwell sonicrafter sounds like exactly what i need. i have researched all of the oscelating multi tools which was time consuming and i got most of the answers that i am looking for but one.can i use the fein multi master accessoties on the rockwell sonicraftrer. i read that the multi master makes an adapter atachment for accessory use between its old and newer version. i alao read that this adapter can be used to fit multimaster assessories on other multi tools. my question is "is their any way to use multi master accessories on the sonicrafter?". i own the craftsman next tex multi tool and it works great but does not have variable speed, an option for a courd, and only 15,000 opm's. it does have accessory compatability with the multi master, a dust collecrer, and a led light mounted to the front(whoch is extreemly usefull). I have a refinishing company and need the fine tuning of the variable speed and need the courd for continuous use. the other thing that i need is the detail sander that (as far as i know) only the fein multi master offers. i would very much appreciate any info that you have on this, thank you, Tim (Lloyds Professional Refinishing)Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Cheap Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

I was concerned about purchasing this product due to negative reviews, however, it was $200 less than the Fein and I did not anticipate using it very often. My Sonicrafter Deluxe has been used on three occasions for minor cuts. Before each use, I make certain the blade is tight. I cut two 2"x 1 1/2" holes in 7/16" sheathing on speed level 6 and the blade came loose as I started the second cut. After tightening extremely tight continued with the last cut. Also, the forward metal gear casing became so hot I had to wear gloves to continue. The Sonicrafter was used for about 10 minutes total. When I began, the blade was new. After I finished, the blade was very dull. I own many Rockwell products and while the tool is heavy and appears to be well made, this is not the service or longevity expected from Rockwell. Having used the Fein, I will spend the extra money next time.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Discount Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

A friend of mine has a Fien Multimaster, which I fell in love with, but I did not feel I could afford one.

When I saw the Rockwell I thought "Eureka! Now I can afford the same thing, only cheaper!" Never was the old adage "You get what you pay for." more true.

I should have remembered that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. I purchased the Deluxe 72 Piece Kit, and when the unit was brand new, it worked pretty much as advertised. It seems however that Rockwell's quality control is not all that good.

The blades wore out quickly, and the unit itself started to loosen up after a few hours of work. In particular the screw that holds the blade down pretty much lost its ability to remain tight for any length of time. Now, after only a few minutes of use the blade will loosen up and effectively stop cutting. This looseness may have contributed to the dulling of the blades.

My personal opinion is that oscillating tools need particularly good quality materials as well as workmanship because of the ultra high RPMs. Rockwell clearly is lacking in checking what it sends out the door.

All attempts to contact Rockwell have failed. I have tried to contact them by phone, but I always got directed to a phone-tree that put me on wait, then told me to leave a message and someone from customer service would get back to me. No one ever has. Likewise my email has gone unanswered.

What I have now is a glorified paperweight-cum-doorstop. The unit that worked so well three months ago is now literally vibrating apart, the blades would barely cut butter if they could be held securely by the retaining screw, and customer service is non-existent.

Apparently some Sonic Crafters got better quality control than mine, since there are some positive reviews here (Unless, that is, Rockwell employees are over here plugging their product.). I only wish I was one of the lucky ones that got a good unit.

In summary I am reminded of John Ruskin's famous quote:

"There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man's lawful prey."

After all these years, I should have remembered that. Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Since I'm a tool-aholic the reviews I read about this tool really intrigued me. I placed the order through Amazon and the tool arrived just days before I was to start a laminate floor job for my in-laws. This turned out to be one of the best tools I own. I'm not a professional carpenter but I have laid a few floors for family. This tool was great for undercutting jambs and also for removing the second layer of vinyl flooring. Some cuts where I've used a jig saw in the past were made so much more simpler with this tool and without marring the finished floor. Low Price Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

I bought this as an Amazon Warehouse deal. I saved about $9 over a perfect model. The description was "new", but with a damaged outside box. Unfortunately, Amazon didn't tell me an elephant stepped on it, though the tool looks unused. Although I haven't used this tool I gave this tool only 2 stars because of the following.
1). Don't be fooled by the Rockwell name. This is not the Rockwell that once made those legendary woodworking tools under the Delta name. Rockwell power tools are now part of the Positec Group of companies, a Chinese manufacturer of hand power tools. They make OEM hand power tools under various brands. Their American headquarters is in North Carolina, as is Rockwell's.
2). The manual is grossly inadequate and UNACCEPTABLE for a power tool that can do serious damage both to the user and the project. After a couple of pages of the standard safety warnings, the operating instruction consists of 2 pages of wordless line diagrams and a couple of pages of text. There is also a foldout sheet of accessories, with a very a brief description of their use. The Rockwell web site adds very little how-to information. Compares this with the highly detailed Dremel instructions for their Multi-Max.
3). Both the Sonicrafter and the accessories that are in the box are made in China. I have not tried the tool, But the accessories accompanying the tool look and feel cheap in terms of both appearance and materials. I question their durability. The tool itself is hefty. But that is not a measure of either durability or performance. See what others say. There is a 2 year warranty for the Sonicrafter. From the copyright date on the box of 2008, there may not be enough experience with the Sonicrafter to evaluate its reliability over the long run. I love the Sonicrafter (Deluxe 72 pc set)! I researched the many brands available and decided on this one - even though there are a lot of critics. Price was also an issue. I am renovating an 1820 Federal style house with a LOT of windows (a lot with original storm windows as well) - all the windows need to be stripped of lead paint and the panes re-glazed. I have done many using a heat gun but found it to be a lot of unpleasant work. With the scraper blade I was able to clean off a lot of paint and the old putty fairly easily. The blade came loose only once - because I put too much pressure. As others have said - let the tool do the work. It is a little heavy but got use to it quickly. I ran it at high speed and had no heat problems. Found the sanding to be fantastic - easily sanded the glass channels. I have a dremel contour sander that does not work as well. All in all I am very pleased - I cannot say that I look forward to the rest of the windows but the Sonicrafter (and my Craftsman multi-speed orbital sander) will make my work a little easier. Attaching a shop vac was easy and worked well. Great carrying bag and blade/sandpaper holder - keeps everything in its place easily! Would recommend for working on windows! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars - it would be perfect if it could do windows by itself!!!Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I was a bit concerned when I read some of the reviews where people felt the blades wouldn't stay tight. I agree that if you seat the blade correctly and tighten the hold down screw there has been no blade loosening. What could these people be doing wrong!?!?!? It's so easy. I needed to scrape some paint off a hard-to-reach painted wood joint and the Sonicrafter worked great! I couldn't stop until I used every blade in the set. I scraped and "sanded" paint off of concrete and wood, sanded the tight painted wood joints, cut away overlapping stucco, cut wood trim. I can't believe I wait so long to use this tool! Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit Best Quality

This is a very specialized tool that does a good job for some very specific chores. It does plunge cuts where no other tool could. It does detailed sanding in tight spots. And as the TV infomercial for the "real thing" shows, it can do a lot of other tasks related to remodeling. Overall, I am pleased with the Sonicrafter.

But there are some gripes I have with it. First of all, the little allen wrench used to tighten the screw holding the saw blades is easy to misplace. And more than once it has slipped out of the built-in holder molded into the power cord base. Just have to be diligent in keeping track of the little bugger.

You have to really be careful to fully tighten the set screw holding the blades, or it comes loose as soon as you start to apply pressure to a cut. Just takes some practice.

The bi-metal "universal" blade is supposed to cut nails, but after one galvanized deck nail, the blade teeth were ground almost flat. Not exactly as advertised. My advice: use a hacksaw, instead.

I plan to use the Sonicrafter later to install some hardwood flooring, and I will update this rating after I finish that project.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

The tool works very well, except for the screw that hold the tool and accessories in will not stay tight no matter how hard you tighten it. This causes you to have shut it down and retighten several times throughout the project. If Rockwell has come up with a fix for this I believe it will be an exceptional product, however until they do it is a pain to use. I like the soniccrafter tool and have found it does things I could never do with any other tool. Before I purchased it I read a number of the reviews and now agree with most of them. The tool gets hot when used for a deep or prolonged cut and I do mean hot. I have tried different speeds and that does not seem to have any effect. The blades will loosen up as many have stated and it does not matter how careful you seat the blade. I assume a design problem. I have noticed that when you are plunge cutting and the blade is tight in the cut or deep in the cut it vibrates and will loosen the set screw. I wanted the Fine multimaster but could not justify the cost difference for my amount of use. I would buy this tool again and it seems to be a well made husky tool. I seen the commericial for the rockwell, I do allot of home improvments from floors to plumbing to electrical to framing and this tool keeps me from having to bring all my tools with me. The multi speed is really not nessessary because most of the time you need fast But buy the 72 piece set because the price difference for one attachment pays for all the extras you get with the 72pc. the accessaries cost 20 to 30 dollars a piece. I purchased mine at the time I just started to refinish some wood chairs. Which I knew it had a lot of dole work and I thought the finger tip sander would work great for that; while the larger triangle would do the larger area. Let me tell you I used a stripper to get the varnish off because when I tried to sand with 40 grit it did well but you will go through the sandpaper allot which cost allot to replace. Which cause me to find a great idea to fix that expense. You can save money buy using other velcro sandpaper and cutting it to the right shape and It works well like the gator paper you can find in hardware stores. More cons are taking the head off with an allan key every time you change the head but you are stuck doing that with all of the tools. Don't take the sandpaper off and on to much because it will not stick after a while, and watch out if the sandpaper moves off the pad a little it will melt the pad to where the velcro wont stick, so be careful. and remember thay are expensive. But don't get me wrong the pro's are you don't have to press hard to do any of the projects. it is quick and easy to use. It does what it claims. so those little tasks that make you break out all them tools this tool will take care of it. I do love it but wish we could get rid of the allen key and have a lever or something for quick head changing. I lost my allen key after my second project even being careful not to. great product don't miss out. Michael M port angelesGet more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Ordered this tool because of the reviews I had read. Not the TV commercials! Sonicrafter seems well made, hefty, solid feel in the hand, easy to control once you get on to it. It is not the "use it for everything" you see on TV. But it's very useful for certain jobs. Especially those where you must bring the tool to the work piece. I have tried the End Cut blade, works very well undercutting door frames, window sills,or notching or plunge cutting flooring. You have to move tool a little to & fro to keep the cut going. The Semi-circle is great for cutting close to a wall. Easier to use on softer woods but will cut oak or particle board, may take a little longer. heats up some on extended cuts , but usually at the low speed, which you will rarely use. I've cut thin sheet metal with it , you can make some tiny cuts for close fits. The reg. size sanding pad holds well to velcro sanding attachment. Coarse grit good for removing material or rough shaping.
I opted for the 72-piece kit, since the cost of buying the individual blades & tool heads make it a good deal.
The much higher price Fenn Multimaster tool is too pricey..so are accessories. The specs between the 2 tools are close. So unless you're a full time contractor who needs to use 52 weeks are year , go for the Rockwell!

ps: the remarks about the blade going loose are wrong. the 6 pointed mount is secure as long as you keep blade flat against mounting, hex bolt tight,,,very secure. Also you are able to attach blades at different angle for easier access to cuts.
( plus you get extra hex bolt incase you strip it out.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

One of the guys at work purchased this tool and I just had to try it! He loaned it to me for a weekend, and it only took a few minutes to plunge cut several Cumaru deck boards. (Cumaru is much harder than most woods you'll find in any home, on par with Ipe.) Anyway, I didn't find any trouble with the blade coming loose. I tightened it up and that was it. I did notice it cut this wood better at a slower speed. Maybe that's why other negative reviewer were having problems: running too fast. I would buy this took if I had more uses for it, but for now I think I'll borrow it and buy him a blade or two. :)Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I just received the Sonicrafter and put it to use removing grout from floor tile. The carbide blade that came with the kit worked very well but like others have said it wears quickly. You must remember what you are cutting. Tile grout is a very hard and course material and a thin blade like this will wear quickly. I am not disapointed. I am a professional and do like good quality tools and this is one of them. In other reviews I have seen disapointment in the 'hum' of the tool, what do you expect from a tool that is working for you. The best thing about this tool and others like it is that it does not make dust that is uncontrolable.

As for those who are having trouble with the blades coming loose, you must take care, like most tools, in mounting the blades and get it in the groves and tight. What do those with the problem of the thin blades think, it is better to have a well built tool with precision cutting than a hand grinder. I could have used that tool, which I have several, but watch out for the dust.

As for the carbide blades that comes with the tool, the cutting material is on the side of the blade and you should attempt to use that part of the blade as much as possible. Just working it in against the edge will wear that part of the blade quicker. If you choose to go the the diamond blade, which I am going to do, you will exerience the same problem of wearing the blade if you do not use the cutting surface as much as possible.

The tool has a very good feel and the switch is better than some of my other tools with a simular switch. The cord has a good length but when I am all over the floor I use an extension in addition. I rated it a 5 star because I have not found any flaws and if treated with respect it should last a quite a while. Some have complained because it does not have a quick-release rather than an allen head screw. Just think of how much room a quick-release would take up. It is best to have a tool that fits in close to the work.

I feel strong about Bosch tools and considered the cordless one that Bosch makes but I went this route to get an uninterupted use hearing that the batteries only lasted a short time. I considered the Fein Multimaster but could not justify the cost and I don't know how it would be that much better. Don't look at the number of pieces in the kit, most of it is sanding pads. Not knowing how you are going to use the tool they put a little of most things in the kit. You can determine how many of the blades, etc. you will need.

I read reports where some complained about the bag the came with the tool rather that a hard case. I haven't had hinges or latches break off my bags like I have with the hard cases.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Lowest Price Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

I've seen ads for other products and the lower cost ones didn't impress me. I just finished extracting some window casing around built in cabinets. It was more of an operations then demolition. The tool is quite compared to an older vibrating sander I had. The feel is quality.
It cut nicely in wood with the combo blade. The sanders are aggressive. Dust was not a issue, just falls in place. So I just ordered wood blades. The only negative is the screw for changing tools. I'm careful to insert the allen wrench all the way and not strip it.
The head gets hot but I don't hold the head. Not tiring on the hand. Did not loosen as some report. Feed is slow as expected. All in all It's a tool I will use with it little doctor bag.

Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit Decide Now

I first came across the Fein Multitool on a TV infomercial. The price sort of stalled me on that one in spite of the fact that Fien makes top-drawer industrial tools w/typical ***** German engineering.
Several months later I stumbled onto a (brand NEW) Rockwell-Sonicrafter Ad and started searching for info. Didn't take long to find them on scores of websites including Amazon, from whom I'd bought before. Good outfit.

Reading (then) only a half dozen or so reviews on Amazon I knew I'd be more satisfied with the bigger, sturdier Rockwell over the other few light-weights around like the Dremel. I ordered the mid-range ($139.xx) Sonicrafter package.

Turned On or Off this tool has a solid feel, (and sound). It is smooth, quiet and strong. It's (comparatively) large 2.3 amp motor has plenty of muscle. My first need was when I had a 40gal. water heater hemorhage at 11 pm.
Next day I bought a tankless heater - which required a good bit of re-plumbing and cutting a hole larger under the "bottom" of a charged 3/4" PVC waterline in a nightmare place. An otherwise 2 hr. job draining and removing waterlines just to get back to the hole that needed lowering was surgically completed in about 5 minutes with the brand new Sonicrafter. As far as I am concerned this tool had just 'Paid' for itself first time out of the box.

A few tips. #1. Like most cutting tools including power drills, these new Multi tools (by whatever trade name) can not be "pushed" into cutting substantially faster. But, "Leaning" too hard on these tools 'will' do some things you're not going to like; Such as prematurely burning up or dulling cutter blades - overheating the motors - and, if you hear someone complain about the hub screw regularly loosening on a Sonicrafter you can bet that they are seriously 'dogging' down on that tool to make it happen.
The one I chose has the variable speed control - I expect the lower speeds might be handy only for 'sanding' stuff like 'less hard' finishes, aka old varnish. For hard, brittle material 'cutting' use a very high or highest speed... And no different than with any saw-type tool for cutting - your material must be held firmly 'still'. If not, you're just going to be "viberating" your work piece instead of cutting it.

I rate this tool as being a Real Winner among my 'manly' treasure chests of hand-&-power tools! ;-)

Whack on,

Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit Right now

This tool allows me to make cuts in tight spaces like no other tool. I have managed to do repairs with this so much more easily. In some cases I would have been using a wood chisel...with this tool I got a quick clean cut. This tool opens up a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to approaching a repair/remodel.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

This tool outperforms so many similar models. It eliminates a lot of time fitting, cutting, switching out tools. It's versatile, not too heavy and as far as I can see after owning it for almost a year is that it isn't cordless.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit Buy Now

I've had the Sonicrafter a couple of months now, and if it died tomorrow, it will have paid for itself with all the work I have done with it. Best tool I have ever owned. It will get into places where other saws/cutters won't and make a cleaner cut. I haven't used it for sanding, scraping or polishing yet, just cutting wood and nails. When you use it, you can't force it, just let it go at it's own pace and guide it back and forth. I highly recommend it.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I am doing a construction project and have to do several cut outs through 3/4" plywood. I had a little trouble getting the correct settings but after reading the owner's guide (which really needs some work, it is very poorly done), I was able to figure things out. The big thing to learn is to not push too hard and let the blade do the work. Although it is slower than using the jigsaw, the cuts are much cleaner and it is easier to cut a straight line. The other attachments are excellent, the scraper is great at removing old thin set, adhesive, and other things from concrete. The detail sander works great.

I did have problems with blades working loose at first, but once I learned the proper speed setting for each application and listened for the click of the blade setting in place, that problem disappeared. This is a tremendous value compared to Fein and I would not even consider the Dremel, it feels like a toy compared to this.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.
