Cheap Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

I read such great reviews I was very excited to get my new tool. I used the tool intermittently for about 30 mins on a wood cutting project and turned it off. I went back to work on my project and the tool would no longer turn on. :( Maybe I got a lemon?Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Like many others I read all the reviews for this tool and was debating whether or not to purchase this or the Fein tool. I am a contractor that cuts out and installs decorative glass into customers existing doors and sidelites. The Rockwell seemed to be the best among the Fein competitors so I took a chance because of the large price difference and so far am very pleased with my selection. The tool worked perfectly for cutting out steel and fiberglass sidelites. I used the Universal End Cut blade and was suprised how well it cut. I did not have any problems with the blade coming loose as some reviews have stated. I bought this tool specifically to cut out side lites since there is usually not room for a jig saw to manuever and a saws-all is too hard to handle and does not leave a nice clean edge. With this tool I was able to plunge cut without drilling a pilot hole and make perfect square corners with ease. It saves me time on installations and really turns out to be the perfect tool for the job. The Sonicrafter is well built and I plan on using it for a long time.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I am doing renovations in my condo. Like many vintage places, paint was layered on paint since 1929. I am in the process of stripping the many many layers of paint off the woodwork. I purchased the Rockwell Sonicrafter for the mouldings and to remove the paint which is not removed by normal scrapers. I received it today and reviewed the warnings. There really are not instructions included. I first gave the scraper a try. Although it scraped well, because of the design of the attachment, I had to tighten the attachement 3 times in 10 minutes. It kept coming loose. I had to tighten it so tight that I was afraid the I would soon strip the bolt. It still came loose.

Next I tried the finger sander on some molding. The sandpaper fits on the finger attachment using something similar to velcro. This was secure. I used the finger sander for just over 2 minutes on various moulding surfaces and began to smell something. I looked and the top part of the finger sander attachment had melted. It was then that I decided that the Sonicrafter would not work for me and arranged to return it.

As I stated, the tool itself feels like it is solidly built. The design for securing attachments and the attachments themselves are what have the major flaws. Do not purchase for anything but light work.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Low Price Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-pc Kit
I originally wanted to by the Fein all-in-one. I was a little hesitant to buy the Rockwell Sonicrafter but thought, I'll take a chance, the price was right. You can tell how well built this tool is as soon as you hold it in your hands and even more so when you turn it on. Soon after purchase we did a window and door frame "rebuild job" and found many uses for the Sonicrafter. I challenge anyone to remove elastomeric caulk from a steal door or from a pressure treated sill plate without damaging it, we did so with the scraper blade and left little or no marks, I was surprised how well it removed the caulk and how clean it left the surface. On that same job we needed to remove stucco from each side of the openings with out damaging the stucco outside of the jamb area, [we did not want to have a stucco repair], we used the Triangular Carbide Rasping tool and a vacuum to keep the dust to a minimum, normally we would have used a hammer and chisel which would have taken a couple hours, we were done in less than 30 minutes. Again I was very surprised at how well the Sonicrafter worked. I have also used it to, plunge cut base molding and other flat surfaces with extremely accurate cutting results. The Deluxe 72-pc Kit was worth every penny. The variable speed comes in very handy for different job applications. I have yet to find a job that we would not use this tool for. The oscillating action cuts, sands, scrapes and works amazingly well. It is a ideal tool for any one who works doing any type of remodeling.
PS, Every one who has purchased tools to use on their job site everyday to make a living knows, "you don't buy junk" and that some parts will where out ie; screws and bolts "used frequently" to hold cutting blades in place. The manufacture has thought to give you an extra "Allen screw" to hold the attachments to the tool, VERY NICE! Thank You Rockwell.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I debated a couple of years about purchasing a tool like this. At first, Fein was the only option and just for home use it was too much money for me to justify purchasing. Now that there are reasonably priced choices, I purchased the 37 piece Rockwell kit and added some accessories. Honestly, I felt like it was a gamble. Many reviews say the blades don't last and they come loose all the time. I rolled the dice. I WON!!!

This is a solid tool. I love working with tools and I own a lot of professional quality tools. I put this in the same class as my Bosch, Dewalt, Porter Cable, Rigid, and Makita tools.

For $208 I bought the 37 piece kit and a diamond segment saw, a carbide triangle saw, and a blade cleaner. (the 37 piece kit is the cheapest with variable speed; the least expensive kit is not variable speed). The harder the material you work on, the higher the speed needs to be set. According to the manufacturer, it is running the tool on too low a speed that causes overheating and excessive blade wear. The tool and add on accessories cost me less than half as much as the equivalent from Fein would have.

I immediately went to work taking out thinset from an old tile job, probably 1/4 inch trowelled. I had tried hammer and chisel and hated that. I bought an angle grinder which worked but threw dust everywhere. That lasted about one minute before I had to quit because of the dust. Then I threw a rug over it. That was a couple of years ago.

This Sonicrafter with the diamond segment saw is the right tool for the job. It is powerful enough. I used it for an hour, it did not overheat or bog down. The blade shows no signs of wear. The blade never came loose. It did not throw dust everywhere. After an hour my hand was tired. Operating this tool feels very much like operating a random orbital sander. The gentle vibration over time is fatiguing.

Be careful when you mount the blade. Blades mount like a twelve point socket fits on a nut; but these blades and mount are thin like a hacksaw blade. Make sure the blade is seated on the nut before you tighten the mounting screw. If the blade is mounted correctly, it will not work loose. I have used three different types of blades and have never had a blade work loose. Just get it on there right to begin with.

I am more than satisfied with my choice of Sonicrafter over Multimaster. I used some of the money I saved to buy myself a new Stetson hat.

Update: I was digging a post hole in my back yard and ran into a one inch root about 18 inches deep into the hole. All progress stopped. I smiled a lot as I qucikly cut the root out with my Sonicrafter.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

i ordered both items, and used both, the sonicraft does run hot as other's have mentioned, but that does not seem to cause any issues. it performs the tasks it is designed to do. get the full 72 piece so you get all the trimmings. So far I have used this for sanding, and for cutting 1/2inch and 3/4 galvanized pipes. both work fine. i have not experienced the parts coming lose during use. comparing the two, and since i expect to use this occasionally during the next year or so, this is a way better deal than the multimaster. If you are a contractor and expect to use this type of tool almost on a daily basis, I would say get the fein. if you are rennovating your home in your spare time, get the sonicraft, you'll be much happier with a 180 dollar tool sitting idle in the grarage, compared to a 400 dollar tool sitting idle!Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I've had my Sonicrafter for a couple of months and already I feel like I've gotten more than my money's worth out of it. It is a heavy-duty, professional quality tool and this set comes with about everything one needs to get started on any project. So far I have used all of the tool attachments except the rasping triangle, and so far so good.

A kitchen remodeling pressed the tool into heavy use, but the Sonicrafter was most impressive of all in removing loose paint from old crown molding and making the various surfaces smooth, ready for priming and painting. This latter job took me less than an hour -- it was in a large bathroom --with far better results than I would have imagined from tens of hours of hand scraping and sanding. Having pointed sanding tools operating with this much power speeds up detail work immensely.

I find the allen wrench "chuck" easy enough to use and have had saw blades slip only a couple of times when I got in a hurry.

I have yet to use the vacuum attachment -- I'll need to get a hose extension for my shop vac -- but it looks like a clever and effective set-up. But it's not an essential feature, since the tool is great even without it.

I shopped but did not demo the competing products. One was too expensive and the other seemed a little light weight.

I am thrilled with the Sonicrafter.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Why four stars instead of five? The blades need to be put on VERY CAREFULLY. They MUST be seated properly, or else they won't cut, and will begin to gouge their axle, which for all we know, might ruin the tool. Also, as it is made in China, we won't know for some time whether it is a quality tool. p.s. Tighten the hex drive screw very securely!

We do a lot of work on our apartments, but are not contractors. Here's what we love about the Sonicrafter. It does not get dust all over the place when cutting or sanding. The scraper is incredible. You really can make cuts right up to any surface. The sanders get into tight spots. The tool does NOT kick back. You can use it in a cramped space (like between a floor and the ceiling below it). you can easily make a shallow cut when there may be something behind your workpiece. You do not have to be strong to use it. It is quieter than a circular saw, a sabre saw, and a sander.

It will not replace your sabre saw, your circular saw, or sander. But it is great. The best instructions are on the online videos for both the Sonicrafter and the Fein oscillating tool.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I am happy with this tool. it works in some places that a rotary tool works but makes less dust mess. I like it to cut straight drywall cuts they come out clean enough to slide back in place and the piece will refit snugly (great for finding/fixing behind the wall and putting the cutout back in and repair easily). The flat thin vibrating attachments are great for making cuts when no access can be had by other tools without the hazards of a reciprocating tool blade. It can cut nails holding 2-2x4s face to face without damaging either board beyond usable.
I am looking forward to using the diamond tools on ceramic tile this week.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit Best Quality

My project is removing moisture-compromised mortar from an 80 year old red brick basement. I have no running water leaks, just seepage through mortar and the flat nail holes used to attach the furring strips.

I tried hammer and chisel, carbide tipped drill bits and an angle grinder with these results: too hard, inadequate to the task, and effective, but far too dusty.

I looked for an oscillating tool. Fein, the macdaddy is, I think, designed for professionals and priced too high. The Dremel appears to have been made for light projects, not mine. The Bosch is battery operated and for this job I wanted electric power. That left the Rockwell. Bingo.

This sturdy tool met my expectations and more. Once I choose the correct blade, the tool tore through the compromised mortar raising only a minimal amount of dust.

A note about blades. I bought the 72 piece Sonicrafter and an extra grinding blade (circular with a flat side), to remove the mortar. I reduced that blade to a gritless nub in about 45 minutes. Next I tried the eliptical triangular carbide grit blade. Because the metal of this blade is stronger, it lasted somewhat longer. Then I mounted the scraper blade, the stoutest piece of metal in the box, with no grit at all. This proved to be the best blade for my job.

I do not know if this blade would be more effective than the carbide grinder blades on non-compromised mortar, all I know is it works like a charm on my job. Given this experience, I expect the perfect blade for strong grout and/or mortar would be a cold chisel blade, but no one offers that, yet.

A note on the blade mount. Several users have complained that the blade on oscilating tools tend to loosen. I have not found that to be a problem at all. Had I designed this tool, I would have used a stronger blade fastener than an allen head, but so far it has worked for me, and if you round out the allen, replacement screws are a few pennies.

Four stars and not five because I have used this tool for only this application.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I received my Sonicrafter about a month ago and have used it on a couple of projects. My co-worker and I have made the same comment - "how did we get along without this tool." Very flexible and durable.

I say durable and then I must say that the on/off switch became intermittent. I called Rockwell and they are shipping me a complete new kit! No issues, no push back. They are sending a new one even before I return my old tool! I really appreciate a company with that kind of attitude. Things happen, tools break, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt as long as they have such a great support policy. Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

We saw the infomercial and my hubby said that he didn't need and wouldn't use it. I ordered it here (from Amazon) because I figured that, if he wouldn't use it, I would.

We do. We are not very knowledgeable when it comes to tools and home repair but it's really easy to figure out how to use this (which is a good thing because you don't get -or at least ours didn't come with- an instruction manual.)

We've had it a little over a month and I am surprised at how many times my husband has instructed me to, "Go get that thing you bought," when we are fumbling through a home repair project.

I like the idea that it's a safe tool to use, as it will only cut rigid objects (not fingers) so I'm not afraid to (let my hubby) use it.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I've used the Fein Multimaster for a while now, but when shopping for one, the Rockwell Sonicrafter blows it away, if only for the price. When comparing the two, the blades are cheaper, so that's a plus. However, the locking mechanism for the blades is a hex nut and it looks like it can get worn easily. It's slightly heavier than the Fein, but all in all, a great buy. I've used mine for several projects so far and haven't even used 1/4 of the attachments... you'll start making up project before too long. Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

Wow, what a tool. I had to replace the old rusty baseboard registers and returns in my house that were over 50 years old, had ball and chain adjustors that were long gone or broken. Well the local Home Depot does not carry baseboard registers or returns, but Lowes does. So, when I get them home and try to install the first one, guess what, the new ones are about 1/2" wider than the old ones. How do I cut about 1/4" off the old, dry wood moldings without creating a big new job for myself? The Rockwell Sonicrafter to the rescue. Pencil marked the moldings with the new returns and used the "plunge" cut technique and in about 5 minutes I was done with the first one. I don't think a jigsaw would have worked as well or at all. A "zip" type tool may have worked, but would have created a lot of dust in the air. The Rockwell Sonicrafter was the perfect tool for this job. Now back to work and the rest of those registers and returns.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I bought it because I am installing new hardwood floors in an old house and need to retro-fit the mouldings and door trim. Not going to happen with this tool. To connect the attachments to the body you slip them on to a hex nut that is the same thickness of the blade itself. You then thread a screw into a metal bushing on top and tighten it down. This connection will come apart from the vibration of the motor without even touching a piece of wood. If you are lucky enough to get it started into the wood it is only seconds before you have to stop and tighten it again. I was afraid to really reef on it as it is the only screw and I didn't want to strip out the hex head. This same connection is used on all the parts, so it wouldn't even make a good sander.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I used this tool to cut both wood and drywall and it excelled at both. Like others have said, let the tool do the work for you. I was debating between this and the Fein, but decided to go with the sonicrafter based on reviews and price. I did not experience the screw loosening problems as others have found. It seems that if you make sure the blade is mounted properly before tightening, then you(at least I did not) will not have a problem. I did not cut any nails or sheet metal with it yet. I will say that this saw has no kickback or recoil and is a super safe and comfortable power tool to work with. The head does build up a lot of heat under continuous usage. All in all a great buy and I would recommend this tool.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I used the Sonicrafter to do some jobs around the house. The sonicrafter works for me. It is good for cutting grout, scoring tile, cutting smaller pieces of wood (not plywood I found), etc. The attachments do tend to come loose during use. I've found that attaching the accessories firmly and then give an extra turn until you here a click will be tight enough. If you have heavy duty work, then I would use some heavy duty tools. Buying Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

The tool works well to do what it says it will do.

I used it to trim the end of a fireplace mantle to make room for built-in bookshelves. I used a skill saw to cut as far as possible, then I was able to cut straight in to trim the rest of the wood up to the sheetrock.

It does not cut as smooth and fast as shown in infomercials, but that is not surprising.

The 72 piece kit is mostly sanding discs so if you are not going to do a lot of sanding don't bother paying the extra cost. Also, sanding is a self-destructive activity because the dust destroys tools. You are better off buying a cheap (more disposable) sander and saving the expensive Sonic Crafter for saw cutting.

The saw blades are expensive, and only four came in my 72 piece kit though the picture shows seven. For the few circumstance you need them I think the blades are worth the cost.

I am happy with my purchase.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I agree 100% with most of the other posters as far as this tool is loud and after using for a short time your hands are tingling and hot.
They should have used a fine thread for the tool attachment so it would stay tight.
But it will do the jobs that no other tool can do when in a pinch.
eg. There was a rotted 2 X 4 that someone had used as an outside corner board then installing the siding with a rotted spot in the middle of it.
It cut straight into the board without having to remove the whole board and replacing.
My biggest customer is using it to remove grout and likes it.
We just used it to under cut the door jams when intalling tile in a bathroom. The tricky part was no other tool could have cut out half of the jam like I wanted it
Works great to cut holes in sheetrock for old constrution boxes.
I see where a lot of people were raving about the nice box there's came in. Mine came in a simple cloth bag.
As far as finding sand paper I just use my hook and loop paper that I already have and just cut it to fit.
I agree that vacuum pick up is a joke.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-pc Kit Ordered on Jan.5,2009. Received on Jan. 17,2009.
The only reason I gave this tool a 1 star rating was because I couldn't find a way to give a 1/4 star rating.
The first thing I noticed was that the hard case shown in the Amazon product page was incorrect. The tool now comes in a canvas bag. I first used the product on Jan. 21,2009 to cut a couple of standard 3/8" wall tiles and scrape some construction cement from a wall. Worked as expected. Next used today, 2-4-1009 to sand some patches on drywall for refinishing. Ran tool for 5-10 minutes and turned tool off. When I turned on 1 min. later, tool would not run. Seems like something in switch. Called Sonic Crafter to see if this was a common problem. Course they said no. They also told me that they couldn't do anything about the tool since I bought from Amazon. They said that I could get it replaced or my money refunded at Amazon for the first 30 days, but even though the tool has a 2 year warranty, after the 30 day guarentee from Amazon if anything goes wrong with the tool I can't send it to them directly. I first have to send it back to Amazon to get it repaired, even if it's still under the 2 year warranty. They said when I bought it from Amazon, my warranty came from Amazon. So I am sending it back for a refund. Something is screwd up here. I didn't appreciate being mislead by Amazon or SoniCrafter to begin with. Now this whole warranty thing seems to be a "Let's pass the buck" scenario, with the customer(owner) probably getting screwed out of a warranty in the end.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

It seemed like the answer, but created another question...why would Rockwell attach it's name to a tool that burns more wood than it saws?? The apparatus for attaching the various blades is suspect at best. I broke the segmented saw blade first time out. Other attachments kept coming lose as well. It's not rocket science, but those items with a flush mount are suspect. Those with recessed mount are much better, i.e. the sanding attachment and carbide segmented saw blade. The head and blades do get very hot, and I wasn't doing anything terribly complicated! It is a great sander, but the price is a bit high. There's a reason why (when affordable) we opt for German engineering. Though I haven't tried the Fein model, I know it's blades attach differently (and hopefully) more securely! Don't be fooled by the Customer Photos! The hard case shown on the TV infomercials and in the Amazon customer photos is no longer included. The canvas bag that IS included just keeps the tool and accessories in a pile. This was a very annoying change from what I expected. Amazon should remove any customer photos showing the hard case as they are very misleading.
Tool runs hot and accessories are very expensive. I really would like to have the Fein Multimaster, but I just couldn't justify the $400 price tag.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I bought this as a personal Xmas gift to myself and it has lived up to my expectations. It's a heavy duty unit that looks like it will last for many years to come.

I can now sand in tight corners, dig out grout without a sweat, cut through small pieces of wood without digging out all my tools and finish all those small projects around the house without waking up the neigbors. The vibrational impact to your hands are minimal, you don't feel any fatigue due to vibrations. It is a quiet unit.

If you don't need a contour sanding pad (about the only thing the Multi-mater has over this unit) then the Rockwell at $200 less is a better buy, you won't Fein a better deal, don't Bosch it!

Good tool for the price as compared to its competitor. I've only used it on light jobs but it performed well.

In my admittedly limited use of the product so far, I have been very pleased with its versatility and usability. The weight of the product which, at first, seemed to be a liability, actually allows greater control of the tool by providing stability when cutting or sanding. Unlike a rotary tool (like a Dremel), the Sonicrafter stays where you put it and since the blade oscillates instead of rotating, it doesn't generate nearly as much dust or debris.

The contents of the 72 piece kit appear to be well thought out. The small sanding pad has been especially useful; allowing work in tight spaces without disassembling the project.

I have not made use of the dust collection system included with the 72-piece kit, so I can't comment on its efficacy except to say that it doesn't interfere with the use of the Sonicrafter. I've been able to complete all my projects with it in place.

A very solidly built and well thought out product.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit This instant

We are in the process of remodeling our kitchen. We needed a handy tool. Rockwell become kind of disappointment. It feel good in your hands. Looks solid. That is positive, on negative side: blades are expensive, cheaply made - becoming dull just after few uses. Tool gets hot really quickly. Blades are becoming loose after few uses, no matter how hard you try to tight them up. In conclusion I think this tool is design for small jobs and only occasional use not for serious jobs. Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

Good-Looks sturdy, feels well-built
Bad- Vibrates like crazy, gets quite hot in a short time
Good- Lots of attachments
Bad- Most are sandpaper
Good- Cuts drywall exceptionally well, cuts very well in general
Bad- Cuts for 30 seconds before blade becomes loose and makes a horrific noise.
Good- Very long cord
Bad- needs more cutting attachments
Good- 1/2 price of the Multi-Master from Fein
Bad-only 1/2 as good as Multi-Master from Fein
Conclusion- good for the money, but if you have many projects or serious jobs to do, consider investing more money up front. Unless you like attaching and re-attaching cutting blades.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit Review

I fill like Rockwell is ashamed of advertising where they manufacture their tools. I was about to order a Sonicrafter but can not find out where it is manufactured. I think the Rockwell Tools are a part of the Positec Group that was founded by Chinese entrepreneur & CEO Don Gao in 1994. Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I had looked at the Fein Multimaster, but couldn't justify the price. I bought the Sonicrafter specifically to sand between the rails of a baby crib I built for my daughter. This tool will see as much use as my random orbital sander! It's very well made, and does a superb job. A couple of experiential comments: 1. The tool is a fast worker, let IT do the work for you. 2. The dust collection attachment gets in the way, and is useless. 3. I haven't found a source for sanding pads that fit, except Rockwell, and they're relatively expensive.

Where To Buy Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

It was a toss-up between this and the Dremel, since Lowes had the Dremel (sort of, every store in the area was sold out!) locally, while nobody has this Rockwell locally (yet!). But after reading this other Amazon review, I went with the Rockwell. I expect to get a lot of use out of this in refurbishing my old 27 foot sailboat, and have a bathroom to redo too, so decided I'd go with the extra power of this Rockwell over the Dremel. I'm a big fan of Dremel, but it has a 1.5amp motor, vs. the Rockwell SoniCrafter's 2.3 amp (the original Fein tool has a 2.5amp I believe)...so figured I was basically getting Fein's power for less than half the price. (I got the 72-piece Rockwell set).

I think what sold me on the Rockwell was when I noticed this strange, long black tube pictured as included in the 72-piece set, and realized (and read somewhere) that it's a vacuum attachment for hooking to your ShopVac. I have a mini-ShopVac that'll be perfect for that use, so this feature, along with the extra power over the Dremel sold me.

I fired the SoniCrafter up as soon as I opened the box, and I can attest to the quiet, smooth motor, and really solid-as-a-rock construction. And, speaking of the case, I was very impressed with it's solid construction, particularly the hinges. One common weakness of the typical plastic tool case is the pathetic plastic film used as a so-called "hinge." We all know what eventually happens...that little film of plastic eventually breaks, and you end up with two case halves you stick duct tape on where the hinges used to be, to try and make the case usable. Well, I was very happy to see this Rockwell case has actual hinges...so this whole setup looks like it's going to last a very long time. I'm happy I spent the extra for the SoniCrafter over the Dremel.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

OMG, the Rockewell SoniCrafter is great. I was looking for a corded oscillating tool and looked at the Fein Multitasker and blades, but it is just way too expensive to purchase for my needs. So I bought the Dremel and the Rockwell to compare side by side...

The $100 Dremel is lighter and a bit smaller but the buzz the motor makes compared to the Rockwell motor [a little bit heavier and slightly bigger] which humms smoothly is like comparing a Vespa scooter to a Victory street bike.

Since the basic Rockwell is only $20 more than the Dremel and the extra blades are about the same price, there was no question about going for the quality/durability of a Rockwell.

The only convenience problem that I can foresee is getting replacement blades:
Dremel is carried by big box hardware stores; hobbyists who do crafts on the spur of the moment and do not need to rip open walls, will appreciate the around-the-corner convenience.
Rockwell is carried by speciality woodworking stores or the internet; the Home Proj. kind of guys have to plan ahead before ripping into a wall for remodeling. So ordering parts in advance should be a no brainer.

I also really liked the Rockwell case, it is created with niches and screw-downs to hold lots of blades/attachments in place.

I looked at the Bosch 12v battery operated version, and that would have been a good choice but I do not want to have numerous 18v tool systems and chargers for the various power hand tools that I use. I read that the Bosch delivers 20 min of battery power and I might need more time than that between charges.

All four tools mentioned above have variable speeds pretty much the same: 10,000 - 21,000 opm. The Bosch details that I read boasted of 5,000 - 20,000 opm, but I do not know if I need to go that slow. If I did I would have researched more into the rare Praxon version of oscillating tool, which is reportedly underpowered and equivalent to size and weight of the Dremel.

Save Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

absolutely worth every penny. i worked with it for six hours straight. the blade stayed sharp even though i was cutting through one inch thick stair treads. i had no trouble with the blade coming loose. i figure it saved me at least a day of chiseling. the tool was easy to handle although it did get warm, but i can't think of any tool going through the paces i put it through and not getting a little warm. it is a five star plus in my opinion.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Good serviceable tool. Certainly not as expensive as some models out there but you get what you pay for. Not as smooth and vibrates more but it does the job. Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

I also purchased this tool to remove thin set and tile. The first time I used the tool was to cut a piece of wood molding. The blade came loose quickly. My first reaction was that I had been taken by slick ads. I looked over the tool and blades to find a problem. In my haste to try this tool I did not seat the blade correctly over the nut on the tool. Once I realized the problem the blades never came loose again. I removed grout, thin set, cut nails, and undercut moldings. The last job wat using the scraper to remove glued down carpet pad from cement. It worked perfectly! This is a great tool and exceeded all of my expectations. As far as replacement blades are concerned, you can get them quickly online. I also purchased a Dremel blade from HD and it fit using the attachment that was shipped with the unit. The Dremel blade was much smaller than the Rockwell blade. This tool is a 10.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.

Purchase Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

I've been wanting a Sonicraft Tool since Fein was advertising their $400 plus tool kit. I recently found a version of this at Sears, but it was battery powered and Sears don't keep batteries or replacement parts & supplies in stock, so I walked away from it. When I seen the Rockwell Sonicraft, I immediately ordered it. I already had a need for it the day I received it. My task would have been complicated to say the least and the cosmetics of the job I'm sure would not have been neat without the Sonicraft. So far, I've used the cutting blade and the sander. I'm impressed with the way the sander paper is applied. It's velcro, and believe it or not, the paper really sticks and stays in place. Not a problem pulling the paper off when it needs replacement.
The quality of the tool appears and feels heavy duty. This is a tool that should last a long time with proper care. If I was to complain about anything, it would be the case that holds the attachments. The case is too small to put the attachments and supplies in. I had to buy a bigger case in the Arts & Crafts Department of Walmart, but then it was almost too big to fit into the carrying bag that holds the tool.
It's still worth the money and I would encourage anyone who performs general maintenance around the house or professionals who wants to save time and aggravation with certain unique jobs. This is a five-star product.Get more detail about Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit.
